Video Scavenger Hunt
Are your co-workers wanna-be Scorseses and Speilbergs? Do you want a team building event that is flashy, sassy and requires more creativity and technical moxie than our classic scavenger hunt? Do you long to close your event with a “bring-the-house-down” wrap video but you don’t know where you’re going to get out of the ordinary footage?
Then look no further because what you need is our video scavenger hunt! Don’t take it from us…even the Washington Post agrees.
“Video scavenger hunts are a great way to spice up [the] afternoon, make new friends and explore crevices of the city you never knew existed.” – The Washington Post.
Participants in this hunt consult their video scavenger list and use their cameras to document their team’s activities, locations and progress. Teams will normally have one or two members in charge of video footage – a key role on the team!
The video scavenger hunt incorporates the some of the same elements as our classic scavenger hunt. In the video scavenger hunt, teams have a time-limited opportunity to look for answers to challenging questions on surrounding area trivia and collect objects that can be found somewhere in the hunt area…or their own imaginations. They also must obtain video footage of their team in certain locations or in specific situations.
Check out these video scavenger hunt ideas:
1) Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking. Write a nonsensical speech of at least 5 minutes, find a prominent location from which to deliver the speech, involve all team members in the delivery of the speech and capture it all on video. 2) Purchase or construct black pirate eye-patches for all team members. Wear these eye-patches for the remainder of the hunt. All subsequent interactions with other people must begin with “Aaarrrr, matey”. 3) Serenade one or more complete strangers. You must sing an entire song. Video proof is required. Points are completely subjective and will be awarded for the chosen song (the more romantic the better), choice of “serenadee”, volume and your audience’s reaction.
Another challenge of the video scavenger hunt is for teams to stop at checkpoints to collect a password, which enables them to move on. Teams race to the finish with as much completed as possible, in a day or afternoon reminiscent of a reality show. Our goal is for everybody to have an “amazing” time.
At the end of the video scavenger hunt, we evaluate the footage and award points. The winners are honoured at a special awards ceremony, which can include viewing footage from the day.
There are two potential additions to the video scavenger hunt: • One is that we can show the footage from each team after the event. This is always a hit with the participants as they get to further their team bonding by laughing at each others’ high jinks. • The second, which is even more of a crowd pleaser, is to make a wrap video of the video scavenger hunt. This usually requires a healthy budget and usually takes a minimum of 24 hours, but for high-end corporate functions it can have a significant impact on the participants’ impressions of your event.
